McDonald's and the evening stroll
We were left to our own devices for dinner last night, so where’d we end up?
McDonald’s, naturally.
Pros: The Sausage McMuffin With Egg is part of the all-day menu.
Cons: The muffin was tough, thick and flavorless, and the sausage is super salty.
You would think that we’d be tired of all the walking. If my legs could file a domestic abuse case, it would’ve already. ...

Curry Cravings
I’ve done away with the days as it’s all become a blur to me.
We spent a good half and hour going up and down Lee Garden Road trying to find a curry restaurant my dad had seen during his street explorations.
We ended up at Pak Sha Road, at Hang Fa Lau, a restaurant serving baked rice sets, curry sets and tomato dishes.
Kevin had the curry, and oddly enough, the man with the...

Day 6 - Ordering in Chinese and the last planner...
Hopped on a train to go to Kowloon and visited iSquare.
We took a lift and ended up at Golden Palace Seaview Banquet Hall, a mouthful of a name for a restaurant, but it’s OK, ‘cause you’ll get a tummy full of treats after.
One of the best things about having my dad with us in Hong Kong is his magical Chinese-speaking skills. This, coupled with his finding good restaurants superpower...

Day 6 - Tai Koo & pretty cakes
We discovered Tai Koo last year, when my dad asked a cabbie to take us where locals shopped.
He brought us to Cityplaza in Taikoo Shing (MTR stop Tai Koo) where we saw some of the same shops minus the sharp elbows and lack of personal space in densely populated shopping centers like Times Square.
My dad liked it so much that he made sure it was part of the itinerary this year. We stopped at...

Travel Essential: Muji 3-way cape
I first came across Muji’s 3-way cape last year, and it’s helped keep me warm this year so I decided to check out Muji to see if I could get lucky and buy some more (hi, I’m Tatin and I’m a hoarder).
While the my 2009 knit version, with snaps was nowhere to be found, I found this year’s , with big buttons and a bigger weave.
I got this in navy.
You can button the three...

The Mystery Man
I have Pat to thank for introducing me to Patrick Ng’s awesome, awesome blog, Scription.
Pat said that Patrick was just like me, but a guy, what with our mutual stationery obsession, but Patrick is much, much more. He has the coolest job in the world as a source master for one of my favorite shops in Hong Kong, city’super and LOG-ON, though LOG-ON was really my first love since it was what...

Day 5 - Tonkatsunday
Last year, my Dad brought us to this awesome, awesome tonkatsu restaurant. It had just opened then, and ever since that day, I’d find myself fantasizing over that delicious breaded pork drizzled with tangy sauce. I promised myself that it would always be part of my itinerary whenever I’d be in Hong Kong shores.
Last Sunday, we went back there, and I was so excited I gave my...

Day 4 - Finding Rilakkuma
Remember that cute dual-ink Rilakkuma pen I had just bought the previous day?
I wanted to make sure I could find a refill for it, and at first glance, it seemed that Muji’s tiny refills for the pastel multicolored pen would fit.
It did.
Except it got stuck and I ruined the spring trying to unstick it!!
I thought about going back to Wonderland to buy another but I refused to admit defeat...

Day 3 - Windy Christmas & Grandma's appearance
It’s our second year of a nomadic Christmas and this year’s unwitting theme was Chinese-Japanese fusion.
Roast goose, sushi bought from Sogo’s supermarket and steamed veggies.
We took a train to Central late in the evening to see the view from the ifc mall’s roof deck.
I kept saying how it wasn’t really that cold the past few days. Christmas Eve brought the cold with it.
Not to...

HK 2010 - Day 3 - The Hunt for Wonderland, Chanel...
The agenda today was some light shopping for me, though apparently my brain does not grasp the concept of light shopping.
We left the hotel early to grab some breakfast before going to some shops.
Started at Sogo. Pam’s equally polish addicted friend, Smile said that Sogo had some cute stationery available. The department store’s directory indicated that their stationery department was at...

Digital Harinezumi 2 - Better, Cuter & Pinker
When Jill, owner of the best toy camera shop ever, Oh Shoot! told me that a new Digital Harinezumi was coming out (in pink, no less!), I knew I had to have one, even though my old ‘zumi was at home gathering dust, leather cover and all.
I hoped it would arrive before my trip, and I wasn’t disappointed.
Check out the proprietress in the background. Unboxing done over a plate of yummy beef...

HK 2010 - Day 2 - Nan Tei & FaceTime
After a train ride from Admiralty and a walk, we ended up collapsed at Nan Tei, a Japanese yakitori place next to Hokkaido Dairy Farm whose yumminess I can’t get over just yet.
Like most Hong Kong restaurants where space is prime, Nan Tei was on the smallish side, and packed as well. Luckily, we didn’t have to wait long.
The food was served in sticks, as is typical in a Japanese barbecue place....

HK 2010 - Day 2 - Ocean Park
A typical family trip for us usually involves just eating and shopping, with a little sightseeing thrown in just for the sake of it.
Today, we actually did something touristy: we went to Ocean Park.
Our cabbie was nice. He and my dad talked about Lamborghinis, and then the cabbie asked what country we were from. My dad said “Philippines” and there was a long silence.
It was my dad who...

HK 2010 - Day 2 - Hokkaido Dairy Farm
Since our hotel didn’t serve breakfast, my dad, having previously stayed here had scoped out the place already for good eats (one of his superpowers).
He brought us to have brunch at a tiny shop called Hokkaido Dairy Farm, where he raved about the toast and how it was “comfort food”.
He wasn’t kidding. Though we arrived there at 10.45, there was a bit of a wait as all the tables were filled.

Hong Kong 2010 - Day 1
The walkathon, aka, Hong Kong 2010 has finally arrived.
The flight was pretty uneventful except for all the luggage carts being occupied at the new airport (I mean, seriously, how many carts do we have? Ten? Although, to be fair, there were a lot of people at the airport so early in the morning.).
I must rave about one thing first: Cebu Pacific’s web check-in feature is AMAZING. Awesome,...

Tank's new toy
I got a pair of Hello Kitty earmuffs from Pam and Jill for Christmas, and guess who’s decided to appropriate it for himself?
My brand-new, only pair of earmuffs has officially been stolen and turned into a chew toy, blankie and pillow.
I didn’t even get to use them! Oh, Tank.

Globe Ruins My Christmas
So, apparently, it’s not over.
Dear Globe,
It is not my way to have my line cut over and over again.
Sure, I did get a reply from a Mari Silva here about my issues here and here, but it wasn’t enough.
I discovered a couple of days ago that my line had been disconnected AGAIN, and I think it is more of an automatic computer generated thing, i.e. if it detects that you are over your credit...

Tankito Turns Two
Yesterday, my little baby pretend poodle (I really think he’s part something, I just don’t know what) turned two.
Tank. (Amazing photo by Kai. I really want a GF-1, but Pat says I also need the lens he used to take this photo with, which is expensive.)
I was going to take him (Tank, not Kai or Pat) to Jollibee for spaghetti and fries, but was afraid the spaghetti had onions, which are...

Creative Wrapping
My friend M usually has a color scheme set for her Christmas giftwrap, right down to coordinating patterns & ribbons. My other friend M even made delicate handmade snowflakes to attach to her presents. Me? I’m creative, too. I wrapped an early Christmas present in newspaper. It was supposed to be eco-friendly, but really it was ‘cause I didn’t have wrapper lying around. I...

Addicted to Angry Sperm
Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. By now you’ve clicked on this because you’re wondering how a) I could be addicted to angry sperms, and b) how I have microscopic x-ray vision that I can gauge a sperm’s mood.
I completely blame Kale (fitness coach to the stars and my godson’s dad), and my crazy long shoot yesterday for my new addiction.
We were comparing apps when he asked me...

InstantCam app is awesome & Fake Cuenca
After looking through the AppStore for Polaroid-like photo apps, I think I can safely call myself an expert on it, having downloaded dupes like Polarock, ShakeItPhoto, and others who promise to give your photos that instant feel the faux way.
My favorite Polaroid generator is still Poladroid, I like how the texture of the border looks authentic, and it even lets you create smudges and random...

Common sense is not so common after all.
I realized today that long shoot + two hours of sleep = diminished patience.
Although I think the blame should lie mostly on model # 2.
She arrived almost proudly announcing the fact that she had slept at 4 am because she went drinking. As a result, her face and chest had erupted in a smattering of red angry zitty pustules clustered together like dots on a map —a combination of acne and...

We Love Twister Fries
My brother brought home Twister Fries yesterday, and I wanted to take a photo of Gucci eyeing it longingly first, except she was too fast for me.
“It’s mine, bitch.”
I ended up having to give her another fry, perhaps her true plan all along.
If this were a cookie, and Gucci were blue, all I’d need to add are the “OMNOMNOMNOMNOM” growls.
“Give me more if you value...

Singapore Favorites no. 1: Stationery Heaven
The thing that makes me most excited about Singapore is not the chicken rice nor Uniqlo.
It’s this:
Stationery freaks, this is paradise.
Stationery Superstore is home to the best pens, stationery, notebooks and other paper products that will make you salivate, hyperventilate and orgasm all at the same time.
It is also where I get my San-X fix:
You will die. Maloloka ka,...

Pen Is Fail
I got really excited when I saw this in a goody bag I had gotten:
Check out the guarantee at the bottom:
The test:
Ick. What a letdown!!! It writes just like a regular ballpoint pen, and not even a superior one at that, and by superior I don’t mean expensive ones. I happen to be a big fan of Faster pens. The ink is amazingly smooth and glides so well on paper.
Let this be a...

Plandemonium
Ever since I had a custom Moleskine notebook made, I knew that I was committed to the Moleskine Colour a Month Daily Planner.
Of course, my pen still gets the urge to scratch itself on other notebooks, and the adorable crop of 2011 planners I’ve found haven’t made my commitment to Moleskine easy.
The buying started of course with my staple diaries for the year:
I was hoping...

More pen love
Remember that day I went to National Bookstore to look for a refill for this pen?
Well, while I was looking at Power Plant’s nice pen selection in the glass display, I came across a cute pale pink pen that looked similar to my new pen.
A couple of days later, I couldn’t stop thinking about the pink pen and even had Grace dressed up and ready to go back to Papertrail and get me the pink and...

Goodies from Carmex
When I received a tweet from @CarmexPh asking if I wanted to try out their products, I did a little Googling to see first if they were really who they said they were.
They were:
This was delivered to my doorstep a couple of days ago.
Awesome!! I love lip balms, and my friend who is allergic to other lip balms swears by these. They used to be available only in the US and I’m glad...

The Big Crapple
After a long meeting yesterday, I still had an hour to kill before I could get picked up. I also learned yesterday that Bonifacio Global City’s shuttles don’t extend to McKinley Hill, so I had to wait at a small commercial plaza nearby (I don’t want to call it a mall since it didn’t have shops, only restaurants).
The long meeting plus my two hours of sleep made me feel like a walking...

Happy Holidays Are Here!
After a whole month of not seeing Pam & Jill, it was really glad to finally catch up over birthday noodles and tempura flakes.
They really had an awesome adventure—from toothless ladies who still gnaw on corn on the cob to scraping off snow with a comb complete with an unexpected side trip to Japan.
They even brought home Christmas with them:
I know I’m supposed to wait ‘til...

Globe replies...AT LAST!!!!
Remember my looooong post about Globe Telecom’s screwup which was then followed up by this angry entry weeks later at their indifference?
Well, early this evening, I received a call from a Mari Silva, manager of the Park Square Globe Telecom business center.
After apologizing over the “week-long” delay (more like four months), she then said that according to Globe’s investigation of my...
